Basketball Experience

Prior to founding ACD, Gulla spent over a decade playing and coaching NCAA men’s basketball. Following his own NCAA playing career, Gulla embarked on a 7-year college coaching journey that included roles on the staff of Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame head coach Herb Magee and years coaching alongside the 1991 NBA Draft’s #3 Overall Pick - Billy Owens. In 2017-18, he helped lead the men at Philadelphia University to a Conference (CACC) Championship and an NCAA Division II Tournament appearance. Prior to that, during a memorable 2014-15 season at Rutgers-Camden, Gulla played a pivotal role in leading the men’s program to its best overall record since 2001-02 and its first postseason berth since 1976.

Gulla served 8 years as Director of Player Development for one of the middle Atlantic region’s largest youth basketball programs: The Basketball Development Group. Here, while working with an affiliate AAU program known as the South Jersey Jazz that has helped 150+ players transition from high school to the college basketball court, Gulla personally mentored and trained countless boys and girls who desired to play at the college level. He also organized grand scale AAU tournaments in various locations along the east coast and added the title of Club Counsel for the non-profit youth program upon becoming a licensed attorney in 2013.

Gulla has spent time working in the Athletics Compliance Department of Villanova University, a perennial college basketball powerhouse that won NCAA Division I men’s basketball National Championships in 1984-85, 2015-16 and 2017-18. He assisted with all aspects of the University’s NCAA compliance efforts and personally gave Rules Education presentations to head coach Jay Wright on multiple occasions.
